80's Movies: 1984 - Ghostbusters - The Ballroom Scene

There are so many classic moments in this Ghostbusters scene that I can't even count them. I could watch this 1000 more times and not get tired of it.

Things to watch out for:

-Ray's cool night vision goggles.  Those would look cool even in today's movies.
-Sedgewick Hotel (which is actually the Millenium Biltmore Hotel in LA)

Great lines from the scene:

-"Don't cross the streams.  It would be bad."
-"Total protonic reversal."
-"Whoooa ho ho, nice shooting Tex"
-"Give me some room to put the trap down"
-"The flowers are still standing"
-"Maybe now you'll never slime a guy with a positron collider"
-"Venkman, shorten your stream, I don't want my face burned off"
-"I looked at the trap Ray"
-"That wasn't such a chore now was it?"

Looking back, the acting and the script were what really made this movie so great.

The real hotel ballroom as it is today:

80's Celebrity - Christie Brinkley

Christie Brinkley may be the all time hottest supermodel.  Truly America's sweetheart, here she is on the cover of Sports Illustrated in 1980.

She also appeared on the cover in 1979 and 1981.  She was the first model ever to appear 3 times in a row in SI's swimsuit edition.  I still remember stealing issues from my dad's shelf and "reading" them in the closet! LOL

80's Fashion - Z Cavaricci's

I never owned a pair, but at one time these were what the cool kids wore.  I remember one time riding on the bus to school a girl saying to another girl - "Oh my God he is so hot - he has 4 pairs of Z Cavaricci's!" Yep, if only I had a pair like these studs:

The little white tags are hilarious.  I have to get on eBay and buy a pair of these to wear to the clubs.  LOL

1981 Pop Icon - The Human League - Don't You Want Me

1986 Pop Icon - Pet Shop Boys - West End Girls

Wow, this is one of the Pet Shop Boys' most iconic songs and was released at the height of their stardom.

Things to watch out for:

-Creepy dolls
-Amazing view of London Bridge and clock tower
-Serious singing faces
-Where are the hot West End girls?
-Absolutely amazing bass beat
-Best line of the song - "Which do you choose - the hard or soft option?"  LOL

1985 Pop Icon - A-ha - Take On Me

This is the first time I've actually seen this video and it is an absolute work of art.  Some things to watch out for:

-Great hair
-Girl in the video has great eyes
-Since when do police chase after people with wrenches?

Check out A-Ha's Facebook page!  Looks like they are still together and keep in touch with their fans:

Time to play...Who's that?

Who's this actor?  You'll probably never guess his name, but you will instantaneously recognize the movie that made him famous.  I'll give you a hint: the movie starred Bruce Willis versus a whole bunch of bad guys. That shouldn't make the guessing too easy.

Answer:  De'voreaux White.  He played the iconic role of Argyle in the 1988 film, Die Hard.

1993: Snoop Dogg - What's my name?

Turn up the bass on your speakers and hit play. This is one of the rawest videos ever made by Snoop! Some great moments to watch out for:

-The cheesy Dogg special effects
-Dr. Dre with a bomb-ass white ferrari
-The big booty girl twerkin' on the guy's head

1984 MTV Music Video Awards

Not too long ago, the MTV Music Video Awards meant everything to an artist. Getting a “moonman” was really something special.  Do any of you remember the very first MTV VMA in 1984?  It was truly jaw dropping in terms of musical talent showcased.  Held at Radio City Music Hall in NYC, here were the nominations for Video of the Year.

Video of the Year
The Cars — "You Might Think" (Winner)
Herbie Hancock — "Rockit"
Michael Jackson — "Thriller"
Cyndi Lauper — "Girls Just Want to Have Fun"
The Police — "Every Breath You Take"

Now that's a powerhouse list.  Perhaps the most memorable moment of the night was an epic non-lip synced performance by Madonna singing "Like a Virgin".
