Dirty Dancing- Hungry Eyes

Pour Some Sugar on Me - 1987

Ashley this one is dedicated to you! :)

This song has to be among the #10 karaoke hits of all time.  "Pour Some Sugar on Me" was released in 1987 and was the last song recorded on Def Leppard's "Hysteria" album.

Video Flashbacks:
  1. Audience girls in this video are insanely hot
  2. Rick Allen just killing it on the drums with one arm! He lost the other one in a car accident.
Trivia Question: How many members of Def Leppard can you name?

Ferris Bueller - What song is he singing?

It's trivia time!  What song is Ferris Bueller singing in this scene?  (Hint: there are actually 2 songs)

George Michael - Careless Whisper (Video)

"Careless Whisper" was the Billboard #1 song of 1985.  It was a song George Michael wrote when he was only 16.  In my opinion, it's his second best song ("Faith" being number one).

Huey Lewis and the News - Power of Love (Official Video)

To my surprise, Huey Lewis and the News are still touring today!  Here's a classic from the movie "Back to the Future"

Making your way in the world today takes everything you've got...

Cheers was one of my favorite shows in the 80's.  I still can't decide who my favorite character on the show is. But if you force me to pick I would say Sam followed by Woody.  But I also thought Diane and Rebecca were amazing and just the right amount of pretty and funny.  I think some of my favorite moments were when Cheers used to have contests with the bar upstairs.  Also, all of Sam's dates and his dating stories.  Through 11 seasons, the show had some really touching moments too.

Can you name the entire cast of Different Strokes?

This was definitely one of my favorite shows growing up.  Everyone knew "What chu talkin' bout Willis?" The show ran from 1978-1986 and made Gary Coleman a superstar.  See the full cast here and comment below if you have memories of a favorite episode.

Push it real good! Salt N' Pepa (1987)

Turn your bass up reaaaal loud for this one!  "Push it" is Salt n Pepa's most famous and played song.  It gets the crowd hyped every single time people hear it and I'm amazed at it's longevity.  Recently, I was at a bar on a Friday night in West Los Angeles surrounded by college students from UCLA.  "Push it" came on and every single person started rapping all the words in chorus.  Salt N' Pepa...thanks for hyping the audiences for decades and inspiring new generations to "Push it reeaaal good!"

Hot Flashbacks:
-DJ Spinderella in the background
-Cool ass Piano-Man!  "Aaah push it"
-The official "Push it" dance at 0:38
-Thick gold rope chain necklaces
-Fly multi color leather jackets
-"Ooh baby baby, baby baby" at 2:18
-Cheesy video graphics at 4:00

Are you an Easy Lover? Phil Collins -1984

I've heard "Easy Lover" by Phil Collins millions of times on the radio, and I just realized it's a duet!  The other guy is Philip Bailey, a singer from Earth Wind and Fire.

  1. Yellow and pink ties
  2. Phil has looked the same for the past 50 years LOL
  3. Phil can dance (he's also an amazing drummer)
  4. The guitar solo in this song is incredible 3:01

Taylor Dayne - I'll Always Love You - 1987

I'm going start calling Taylor Dayne "The Voice".  She is absolutely phenomenal singing this song.

80s Music - Guns N' Roses - Paradise City (1987)

Guns N' Roses was just an unbelievable band with a rock sound like no other.  Axl Rose had an amazing voice and a lot of critics say he's one of the best singers of all time and definitely an 80's music icon. (I agree) Growing up in the New York Tri-State area, when this song plays, it's like the national anthem.

Flashback fun facts:
-Axl Rose combined two of his old bands (Hollywood Guns and LA Roses) to form Guns N' Roses
-The original band members consisted of lead singer Axl Rose, lead guitarist Slash, rhythm guitarist Izzy Stradlin, bassist Duff McKagan, and drummer Steven Adler
-Paradise City was a single off the Appetite for Destruction album (1987) and was written in the back of a touring van.

80's Pop Music - New Kids On The Block - Step By Step (1990)

Step by Step was NKOTB's highest selling single ever.  It's just an awesome song and I'm very envious of the hair these guys had.

-Donnie opening the video on his big motorcycle
-Jordan doing some impressive breakdancing flares at 0:17
-Stage footwork at 0:27.
-See if you can spot Marky Mark in the video!
-Stage footwork at 1:45
-Impressive jumping at 2:30
-Jordan Knight doing work at 3:17!  Damn, the guy has moves!
-Gay moment at 4:11 LOL

Bonus question:  Can you name all 5 of the New Kids?

1985: Best intro: MacGyver

I get seriously pumped up every time I see this intro.  The song absolutely rocks and just makes you happy. Can't tell you how many things that I burned and tied together as a kid trying to imitate Macgyver.  Some interesting things to know about Macgyver:

Full name: Angus MacGyver
Employer: Phoenix Foundation in Los Angeles and United States government agency, the Department of External Services (DXS).
Background: Educated as a scientist, MacGyver served as a Bomb Team Technician/EOD during the Vietnam War.
Talents: Encyclopedic knowledge of the physical sciences
Preferred weapons: Duct tape and Victorinox Swiss Army Ranger Pocket Knife

Rumors are that a Macgyver movie is in the works with director James Wan (Saw).  However, the rumors came out about 2 years ago and I haven't heard anything new lately.

1980: AC/DC - You shook me all night long

Wow!  This is one of the best rock videos and songs of all time.  This is the most iconic of all AC/DC's songs and Brian Johnson still performs a great version of it to this day.  It features an insanely hot british 80s model Corrine Russell.

-Corrine Russell in a tight, tight sweater
-Brian Johnson in the metal bathtub in the kitchen
-Biker babes with zipper bottoms riding stationary bicycles.  Why are they in the video...why not!!?? LOL
-Entire video was shot in Huddersfield, UK (outside of London)

Corrine Russell

80's Sitcom - Cosby Show - Best Singing Scene

The Cosby Show was the highest rated TV sitcom in the 80's.  I loved the show and used to watch it every Thursday with Cheers following right after.  Here is one of my favorite moments from the show.

-Cliff Huxtable's parents
-All 5 ladies dancing.  Most guys had a crush on Denise.  I liked Vanessa :)
-Theo Huxtable.  I met him randomly in Hollywood last year and he looks exactly the same!
-Rudy Huxtable.  She's absolutely adorable.

Bonus Question:  Can you name the singer of the song?

Answer: Ray Charles singing "The Night Time is the Right Time"

The Pleasure Principle - Janet Jackson (1987)

If you thought Michael could dance, check out Janet in her heyday!  Wow I didn't know she had so many moves.  She looks smokin' hot in this video too.

Trivia Question:  What Janet Jackson album was "Pleasure Principle" on?

The First Moonwalk - Michael Jackson - 1983

This was Michael Jackson's very first live performance of Billy Jean and in my opinion it was his best.  As the legend goes, he pulled the outfit together at the very last minute and added the glove and fedora hat at the last minute.  Check out how pumped the audience gets.

Trivia Question:  Can you name all 4 of Michael's brothers?

We Are The World (1985)

One of the greatest songs ever recorded, in my humble opinion.  How many music artists can you name in the video?  The entire list can be found here.

Get to da choppa!! Arnold Schwarzenegger (1987)

In my opinion, Predator was Arnold Schwarzenegger's second best movie behind Terminator 2.  This classic line "Get to da choppa!!" can be screamed any time your bros are around and I guarantee it will get a laugh. Send me your best "Get to da choppa!" selfie video and I'll post it on the site.  Email:

P.S.  For all you superfans, check out this video of the behind the scenes, making of Predator.

Who is the most powerful superhero? (Hint: It's not Batman, Superman, Iron Man, or Spiderman)

Although Greatest American Hero was only on the air for 3 seasons, it created one of the most memorable geek superheroes of all time.  He would easily give Batman, Spider Man, Iron Man, and even Superman a run for their money as the red suit that Ralph Hinkley wears gives him powers of flight, super strength, resistance to injury (including direct bullet hits to areas covered by the suit), invisibility, precognition, postcognition, E.S.P., telekinesis, X-ray vision, super speed, pyrokinesis, holographic vision, shrinking, psychometry, and a sense to detect the supernatural.

Time to play...Name that 80's movie

This is a tough one, but should be very easy for some of you.  Hint: the movie is about one of the coolest high school kids ever.

Yippie Ki-Yay...Die Hard (1988)

The best lines in Die Hard right from the top of my head:

1.  Yippie Ki-Yay Mother-f*cker
3.  Give me the detonators
4.  My name is Clay.  Bill Clay.
5.  You didn't pay me for my charming personality.

Feel free to comment below and add more.

How about a nice game of chess? Wargames (1983)

Wargames starring Matthew Broderick was way ahead of its time.  Hacking, the internet, military computers, supercomputers - these were all displayed in a movie that came out in 1983.  The ending message of the movie was also very powerful and chilling: No one wins in a global thermal nuclear war.

Stephanie Seymor was a natural beauty...

Stephanie Seymour was a 5'10" brunette model from San Diego with striking green/blue eyes.  She appeared in Guns N' Roses music video November Rain.  She also appeared in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issues in the late 80s and early 90s.  At age 45 today, she still looks great and probably belongs in the MILF hall of fame (she's got 3 kids now).

Stephanie Seymour today....

The Ultimate Lamborghini Countach featured in Cannonball Run 2

This is the car of my dreams!

  1. 155 MPH!
  2. How can you lose a Lamborghini with 2 great looking chics in the middle of nowhere?
  3. "And it's got 2 great looking chics in it!"
  4. This movie had an all star cast that included Frank Sinatra and Jackie Chan

Maybe you can hire....The A-Team

Along with MacGyver, this is one of the best openings to any TV Show of the 80s.  The A-Team featured a great cast of actors including the late George Peppard as Hannibal and Mr T. as B.A. Baracas.  Wow, I wish this show was still on the air!

Miami Vice - In the Air Tonight

Hot Flashbacks:
  1. Don Johnson gets pissed at :30 (Great Acting!)
  2. Classic Black Ferrari
  3. Sawed off double barrel shotgun and 1:37.  Badass.
  4. Members only jacket on Tubbs.
  5. Phil Collins - In the Air Tonight.  Classic performance

Nothing lasts forever...In the cold november rain

I love the epic, sweeping cinematic quality of this video.  I really think this is when Guns N' Roses were at their peak.  Though earlier songs like "Welcome to the Jungle" were simpler, harder, and purer, this one showed that their music could cross into different styles and be universal.  According to his biography, Axl Rose toiled for 8 years to write this song and ultimately locked himself in a room for weeks until he finished it.  In my opinion, all the struggle was worth it because this is a masterpiece.

Johnny J5 was the original movie robot

These days you practically can't see an action movie without a robot of some sort.  But remember Johnny (J5) in short circuit?  This robot was the original and definitely ahead of it's time.  I'm blown away at how realistic he looks!  Seemingly, no CGI special effects are used with Johnny.  Movies today still copy J5.  For example, those little annoying robots Transformers 2 and Wall-E.   I also find it groundbreaking that an Indian character had such a big part in a movie. (although he's played by American actor Fisher Stevens)

  1. "This crap is moving!"
  2. "Lady luck, she is sitting in our laps today"
  3. "Oooh input!"
  4. I love how fast he reads the book

Lets give a round of applause for Randy Watson and Sexual Chocolate

Two moments in this video 2:02 and 2:16 had me rolling.  Aside from that, this is simply a beautiful performance of Whitney Houston's "Greatest Love of All"

Sexual Chocolate!!

Tom Cruise acting cocky in Top Gun

Gotta love this scene!  Tom Cruise acted like such a cocky bastard and it fit the role perfectly.  It has been said that if you want to pick up a lot chics, act like Tom Cruise in Top Gun.  Ladies what do you think?

  1. "That's classified.  I can tell you but then I'd have to kill you"
  2. "Because I was inverted."....cough "Bullshit!" (Iceman, you ass lol)
  3. Charlie was really hot in this movie
  4. "You know, giving him the bird"
  5. I want Maverick's sunglasses!

Here's another look at Kelly McGillis:

80s Movies - Johnny B. Goode performed by Michael J Fox in Back to the Future (1984)

Wow, here's one of the best scenes from the original Back to the Future.  Michael J. Fox playing the guitar and singing is absolutely epic!

-Michael J. Fox looks like he can really play the guitar!
-Johnny B Goode was originally performed by Chuck Berry.  His version is even more epic if you can believe it.
-Signature move at 1:42

Bonus Question:  What was the name of this High School Dance?

Tuesday, April 22, 2014

80s Music - Footloose Song and Final Dance (1984)

Footloose, footloose, kick off your Sunday shoes!  I don't know how you can listen to this song and not get up and dance to it.  No matter how many times I listen to this song (or watch this clip), I still boogey to it. Kevin Bacon was just awesome in the movie and he is definitely an awesome dancer, despite having a few dance doubles in the movie.  What I probably remember most about the movie is Ren's (Kevin Bacon's) style.  I must have worn ripped up light blue jeans, a white shirt / sweater, and sneakers for at least a few years as a kid.

Kevin's still got the moves as he recently showed us on The Tonight Show.

Shout out to Kenny Loggins who was an 80's music icon and performed "Footloose".  Other awesome songs on the soundtrack include "Let's hear it for the boy" and "Hurts so good".

-Gotta be the worst dancing ever by Woody (Chris Penn) at :032
-Ren's bowtie move at :052. That should be done by any guy ever dancing in a Tux.
-Unnamed pop lock dancer dude kills it at 2:34.  That is way beyond his time.
-Woody redeems himself at 3:22

The Karate Kid Montage - You're the Best

This is one of the defining classic movies of the 80's.  An underdog fighter, an underdog love story, and classic characters that are unforgettable to this day.  The song "You're the best around" is sung by Joe Esposito.

-Ralph Macchio as Daniel Larusso (Danielsan).  He is absolutely kicking ass!!
-Pat Morita as Mr. Miyagi (R.I.P. You were a legend)
-A beautiful young Elizabeth Shue as Ali
-Martin Cove as John Kreese the evil master instructor
-William Zabka as "Johnny", Danielsan's nemesis
-Cobra Kai Black Uniforms
-Mr. Miyagi stare at 3:08
-The Karate Kid soundtrack

80s Music - Taylor Dayne - Tell It To My Heart (1987)

Whatever happened to Taylor Dayne?  She had an amazing voice and grew up near my hometown in Long Island, NY.  She went to sell an incredible 75 Million records, which is more than most popular artists today. From her website it looks like she's still touring and still looks incredible.

Tell it To My Heart was Taylor's first hit and was a huge hit globally - especially in Europe, where there were endless mixes of the song played at clubs.

-This video looks like it was shot for less than $100 LOL
-Taylor's hair is crazy
-Jeans look like they're from Osh Kosh Begosh
-Taylor starts getting really hot at 1:28
-Creepy red footsteps at 2:37

80s Music - Rick Astley - Never Gonna Give You Up (1987)

You've been Rickrolled! LOL

Don't laugh, Rick Astley's 1987 song Never Gonna Give You Up hit #1 in 25 countries when it was released.  It's still a classic and I absolutely turn this jam way up when it comes on the radio in my car.

Rick is still actively performing and may be coming to a town near you.  Check him out at: The Rick Astley Website

90's Music - MC Hammer - U Can't Touch This

Wow, this is MC Hammer at his best.  So many great dance moves in this video I don't even know where to begin.  There was a time when he was dominating all the music charts and was just racking up awards.  He seemingly exploded out of nowhere and was the originator of Hammer pants and the Hammer slide move.  "U Can't Touch This" was a global phenomenon and hit #1 on the Billboard Charts in almost every country it was played in.

-Song prominently samples Rick James' Superfreak.
-Awesome moves at 1:23
-Ridiculous bicycle outfit at 1:41.  Bobby Brown rocked the same outfit in his video:
-The Hammer Dance at 1:59
-Hammer jumps down below to get a better look at the booty 2:44
-Awesome Hammer move at 3:08
-White girl at the end of the video.  She is hot but not a good dancer.  I'm sure one of Hammer's entourage guys picked her LOL.
-Download "U Can't Touch This" MP3

90's TV Shows - Fresh Prince of Bel Air - Original Extended Intro

Ladies and gentleman, I present to you the original extended cut of the opening theme song of The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.  Will Smith was only 22 when the show first aired and was "fresh" off his grammy winning musical career with DJ Jazzy Jeff (see if you can spot him in the video).  I wish Will did more rapping during those years because he was really, really talented.

80's - Name this child actor!

Wow, this was one of my favorite commercials in the 80's.  It featured Michael Jackson and a young actor who would go on to star in one of America's biggest hit TV shows.

Answer: Alfonso Ribiero.  He went on to play Carlton in the hit show "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air"

Wednesday, April 2, 2014

80's - Name this child actor! (It's a hard one)

Answer is in small letters below.

Peter Costa.  He played Rudy Huxtable's young friend Peter Chiara in the 80's series "The Cosby Show"

80's Music Icon - Paula Abdul - Cold Hearted (1989)

This is one of Paula's sexiest videos!  I remember watching it as a kid and thinking it was like porn lol.  By today's standards, of course, it is pretty tame and actually I'm surprised at how much clothing Paula actually is wearing.  While I don't think this was her best song, I think it displayed all of her talent (singing, dancing, and personality)  On to the video...

-Entire video is an ode to the final scene in Flashdance
-Little record exec with the round glasses.  Round glasses!
-Incredibly advanced synth / keyboard / electronic system for 1989
-Every cheerleading squad in the nation now has dance numbers like this.  Paula was a pioneer.
-Awesome slide move at 2:54 into the violins playing
-BEST part of the the video is at 3:15 when she does "Co Co Co Cold heart-ed oh ahh ahh...Co co co cold hearted sssnnnnake."  This is why Paula was a an 80's music icon.
-"Ooh Ahhh"
-"Ooh Ahhh"
-"Well, what d'ya think?"  Love you Paula!

80's Music Icon - Bobby Brown - Every Little Step (1989)

Bobby, Bobby, Bobby.  Damn man, what happened to the days when you used to dance like this!???  IMHO, "Every Little Step" is Bobby Brown's most iconic song, performance, and video.  Many people don't know that this guy used to sell out arenas on a nightly basis.  While some questioned his voice, no one could question his onstage performances.  You won't see anything like him today.  He brought it hard and his moves were groundbreaking.

Allright, let's get to the video. Things to watch out for:

-Sick bass track right from the beginning
-The 3 hot black girls with their high boots
-Bobby's lean to one side afro
-Bobby's jacket with "Bobby" embroidered on his right arm
-Bobby's ridiculous bicycle rider outfit with suspenders
-The signature running man step move which is unbelievable at 3:06
-Bobby randomly in a bathtub with a chick at the end of the video

80's Movies: 1984 - Ghostbusters - The Ballroom Scene

There are so many classic moments in this Ghostbusters scene that I can't even count them. I could watch this 1000 more times and not get tired of it.

Things to watch out for:

-Ray's cool night vision goggles.  Those would look cool even in today's movies.
-Sedgewick Hotel (which is actually the Millenium Biltmore Hotel in LA)

Great lines from the scene:

-"Don't cross the streams.  It would be bad."
-"Total protonic reversal."
-"Whoooa ho ho, nice shooting Tex"
-"Give me some room to put the trap down"
-"The flowers are still standing"
-"Maybe now you'll never slime a guy with a positron collider"
-"Venkman, shorten your stream, I don't want my face burned off"
-"I looked at the trap Ray"
-"That wasn't such a chore now was it?"

Looking back, the acting and the script were what really made this movie so great.

The real hotel ballroom as it is today:

80's Celebrity - Christie Brinkley

Christie Brinkley may be the all time hottest supermodel.  Truly America's sweetheart, here she is on the cover of Sports Illustrated in 1980.

She also appeared on the cover in 1979 and 1981.  She was the first model ever to appear 3 times in a row in SI's swimsuit edition.  I still remember stealing issues from my dad's shelf and "reading" them in the closet! LOL
